In this topic we can find that it is approached from different points of view.
For example, when we look for the meaning of the word in any dictionary, we will realize that its origin, from Latin, is habitus, and define it as: "the special way of proceeding or conducting acquired by repetition of equal or similar acts, or originated by instinctive tendencies. ”*
Another area that has defined the word habit is psychology, and we will take the approach that William James gave, where, in his book of "Habit", he raises how this action is generated and the relationship that exists in animal and human behavior in function to the processing of information from the central nervous system and brain plasticity (ability to modify or otherwise use the connections that exist in the brain). He classifies the habit into two types, which he calls innate or instinct, which are rooted by species and customs, and the other types of habits are those acquired through life through learning.
Have you ever thought about this relationship between your action and what it implies in the function of your nervous system?
